Parts of North India are expected to witness a cold wave this week as temperatures continue to dip. In the next three days, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted a fall of three-four degrees in the night in Punjab, Haryanasure win ph, Delhi and Rajasthan.

"Cold wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Punjab and Haryana during Dec 31-Jan 2, and over Rajasthan during Dec 30-Jan 2," said the IMD. Along with a cold wave, the weather department has also warned of dense fog.

From New Year's Day onwards, a cold wave is expected to persist across Delhi-NCR during the day, reducing visibility and a drop in temperature.

On Monday, parts of Delhi already witnessed a sharp drop in temperatures with Safdarjung recording a maximum temperature of 15°C, five degrees below normal, and Palam at 13°C, seven degrees below the average.

Dense Fog Across North India

With a cold wave setting in, the IMD has also predicted dense fog across several states. Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab are expected to see dense fog from January 1 onwards.

Apart from this, dense fog is expected in Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern states till Tuesday. Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim may see fog until January 1 and in Himachal Pradesh, similar conditions are likely to remain till January 2.

For Tamil Nadu, specifically Chennai, is expected to witness more rain. Over the next week, parts of Chennai are expected to witness light drizzle.
